Changing E-Commerce Landscape
The e-commerce landscape is not changing it, it already has…
This means we are presented with new ways of exchanging goods and trading online. A recent Forbes report indicated that e-commerce sales are expected to exceed 6-trillion by 2020. Platforms like Shopify, GoDaddy, and Wix are making it easier and easier for entrepreneurs to find their way to an online business. Here are some trends which we believe will play a large role in 2019:
Think Mobile First!
Most retailers are beginning to develop apps and websites with the mindset of mobile-first. What does this mean? When you’re building a site that fits your brand story, establishes a purpose and is very well optimized, you do this from a minimalist point of view, so that people, from their mobile devices, can have a clear path to conversion.
It is very well-known that Google rewards sites with mobile-friendly platforms, thus ranking them higher on their search engine. It’s no more a trend then it is a basic reality that users search on their phones now more than ever.
Chatting with Chatbots
Chatbots are one of the highest rated CRM (customer relationship management) tools and show no sign of slowing down. With a world of information at each users’ fingertips, fewer people are willing to wait for email responses or listen to music on hold.
Chatbots provide the “open-door” mentality to the customer as if to say “We can be reached with your concerns or questions at any time.”
The largest advancement in this tool has been not the ease of use but in the AI learning capabilities. Chatbots are no longer limited to basic re-direct capabilities and can now provide commonly requested information using installed code and algorithms. Almost every website you stumble upon these days will have a Chatbot.
Many people are still unaware that Facebook offers a completely free Chatbot linked to your Facebook Business page. Take advantage of this tool to serve a basic customer service helping hand.
Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality
Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) have been apparent but unfeasible for years now. Retailers are using VR to showcase their products or store space, thus building more trust and report with the potential customer. With the cost of these types of systems continuing to become more affordable, users can now feel more immersed and connected than ever with a brand or business they have never even visited or seen.
It’s getting easier and easier for brands to send their products to various places on earth.
Amazon is testing drones & driver-less delivery trucks for package delivery in England, there are postal lockers popping up in Australia and right here in Canada as well. Many retailers are even beginning to test out the possibility of same-day delivery. The retail experience needs to be exactly that. With more and more people shopping online every day, and now that the time factor is being taken out of the equation, those who shop at physical retailers want to see it evolve into more of an experience. This is usually exemplified through, taste testing, performances, pop-up shops, and giveaways.
As shipping capabilities change in the coming years, you can expect the retail experience to change with it.
